PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The public transport system is made up of city and private buses, minibuses and trolleybuses. Most routes run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. or a little later. Single tickets for regular city buses and trolleybuses can be purchased from any Lietuvos Spauda kiosk for 2 Lt per ticket or direct from the driver for 2.50 Lt. On a city bus single tickets need to be validated in the appropriate device. A single ticket is valid for one journey of any distance on any one bus or trolleybus. A fine for riding without a ticket is 100 Lt.

Tickets for private buses are only available on board and are sold by a conductor for 2 Lt per ticket.

The minibuses follow similar routes to buses and trolleybuses. They are much faster and cost a little more to use. Tickets are sold by the driver for 3 Lt per ticket. They have no official stops, so in order to stop a minibus you need to stand by the side of the road and wave your hand to get the attention of the driver.

Beware of pickpockets who work several routes around the city.
