Syllabus outline

The duration of the placement is two weeks, on a prior arrangement with translation companies. The arrangement is done by the Translation and Interpretation Department of VU or by students themselves if they have a suitable training place. Depending on the branch (translation or interpretation) the internship is arranged either in February, during the first two weeks of the Spring Term (for translators), between February 4 and February 17.

Prior to the work placement students have to fill out a tripartite agreement between the University, the Student and the Employer. The agreements are signed and kept at the Dean’s office. Two internship coordinators are appointed: one at the Department, the other at the Company. The company is informed about the objectives of the work placement before the students’ arrival.

Two documents are filled out by the end of the placement: a Report by the student himself/herself, and a Performance Report by the instructor. The students write reports on their activities, working conditions, team tasks, individual tasks, development of their generic skills, types of documents translated, etc. The instructor reflects on the student’s abilities, potential, team performance, etc. At the end of their work placement students bring both reports to be reviewed by the work placement coordinator. The Performance Report is graded by marks.
